Share the Magic

The Share the Magic Project is  a multi  phase project  designed to  ultimately build  a hot glass facility with the capacity for manufacturing chevron beads in Ghana, Africa and train the local bead makers there to make chevron beads .

Our goal for getting hot glass on the ground in Ghana is sometime in 2010. This will give time  for coordination of grant funding, furnace design research and construction and logistics organization.

Phase one of the project is aimed at getting a credible multi layered chevron bead into production in Ghana employing  the powder glass  technique already in use by the bead makers  there.  I have spent some 600 hours in research and development of the powder glass chevron to date.

The Ghanaian bead maker Nomoda E. Djaba, known locally as Cedi (pronounced CD) in the village Odumase - Krobo has been making powder glass beads , carrying on a local tradition of many generations, for over thirty years.   Mr. Cedi  has agreed  to be a participant in the Ghana Chevron Project.  A workshop is scheduled in summer 2007 at my studio in Nevada with Mr Cedi to work on powder glass chevrons and demonstrate the technique for making traditional cane.  This workshop will be the first major step in the Share the Magic Project.
